Buyer guide

Perfume OEM or ODM: which route fits your brand?

In perfume OEM, we manufacture a product you have designed: your scent choice, your bottle, your box. In ODM, you start from a design we have already developed and tested, then change the colour, cap, label and packaging. ODM is faster because the mould and tests already exist. OEM gives you a shape nobody else has.

The short answer

Choose ODM if your date is close, if this is your first fragrance, or if you want to test a range before investing in a mould. Choose OEM if the bottle itself is part of your brand, or if a retailer needs a shape that no one else sells.

What each route means at the factory

OEM ODM
Who designs the bottle You We have, already
Mould New, 35 to 40 days from the signed 3D drawing Exists
Compatibility and transit tests Run from the start Already run on the shape, repeated for your decoration
What you change Everything Colour, cap, liquid colour, label, box
Shape exclusive to you Yes No

In both routes, you choose the scent. We are not a fragrance house: we hold over 500 fragrance oils in stock to smell, and can request samples from the fragrance houses for about 5,000 more.

Where the time goes

A new bottle mould takes 35 to 40 days, counted from the day the 3D drawing is signed, not the day the idea is agreed. A cap mould is about the same. After that come trial samples, bulk packaging, about ten days of filling and about a month at sea to Europe or the US. So an OEM project is longer than ODM, but the extra time is in the packaging, not in the perfume.

Where the risk sits

Most problems in a new design come from the finish, not the shape. Two we have seen on our own lines: a pearl effect added to an electroplated cap caused moulding marks, and a frosted bottle with hot foil stamping scratched in the transit test. ODM designs have been through those tests already. In OEM, we raise the risks when we see your render, before any money is spent on moulds.

The rule that applies to both

We only fill liquid we make. Your own bottles, caps and boxes are welcome in either route, but we do not fill finished juice made elsewhere, because we cannot stand behind a liquid we did not make.

A middle path

Many customers take one of our existing bottles and change only the finish and box. That keeps the speed of ODM while the product still looks like your brand. The Sunset diffuser case shows one design used by three customers, each with a different look.

Questions buyers ask

Is ODM quicker to start than OEM?

Usually yes, because there is no mould to make and fewer tests to repeat. The unit cost depends far more on decoration and packaging than on which route you choose.

Can another brand use the same ODM design?

Yes, the shape is shared. Colour, cap, label and box are chosen per customer, so each version looks different on the shelf.

Who owns the design in OEM?

You do. We sign your NDA, and designs and scents developed for you are not shown to other customers.

Can we move from ODM to OEM later?

Yes. Many brands launch on an ODM design, learn what sells, then commission their own bottle for the next range.
